Advancing equitable access to IT careers

The world has been going through many shifts that affect how we live, work and learn. This has created both opportunities and challenges for many. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, it was projected that 90 million workers may need to develop new skills to ensure future employment. Recent global events have only accelerated the need for upskilling, more particularly to fill the skills gaps that exist in future-driven tech industries - as 1 in 5 enterprises in the EU is looking to hire IT specialists.

While all our lives are somehow impacted by COVID-19, some groups are disproportionately affected by its economic consequences. Because of circumstances that are out of their control, these individuals are more at risk to find themselves unemployed and will face tremendous barriers to step back onto the career ladder. A McKinsey report shows for example that women’s jobs are 1.8 times more vulnerable to this crisis than men’s jobs.

At INCO Academy - Work in Tech, we aim to boost access to future-driven industries for individuals facing significant barriers to employment. We partner with local organizations in 17 countries in Europe with the mission to support thousands of underserved learners in overcoming barriers to employment, providing them with a fully-funded professional certification program and a launchpad to careers in IT.

The Google IT Support Professional Certificate course, 100% free and accessible online on Coursera, allows learners to acquire the digital skills sought by employers and become job-ready thanks to hands-on IT projects and coaching.

A Global Community of Learners

Learners will gain access to a global network and benefit from additional needs-based support, including mentorship, subsidies, and other cross-cutting resources such as language classes and child care support.

Job Placement Support

​Our holistic approach supports learners in accessing local career resources to facilitate the job search process, including resume review, interview preparation, and more. Graduates can also get connected with potential employers interested to hire talent in their local regions.
